ROUND TOP - Recently, Chic Night at Windy Knoll in Round Top drew over 250 people, with Houston radio personality Sam Malone as emcee. The auction brought in a much-needed infusion of cash of more than $500,000 to help raise the construction project funds for a spectacular theater center for the performing arts where the historic Knesek building in Fayetteville once stood.
Joan Herring and Wendy Burks cochaired the black tie and theater attire event. This successful and fun event set the stage for what will be a major lift for Fayetteville. A few of the auction items were trips to Cabo, Fort Davis and Park City, dinners at the Wine Bar at the Grand Fayette Hotel, Boon and Co. and an evening at Dr. Mazie and Brent Left - wich's home. A set of 1840 French dueling pistols from Axe Antiques brought in a cool $19,000.
However, a hot $100,000 was bid during the silent auction for an artwork entitled Pool Party by Round Top artist John Lowery.
For the more adventurous, an African safari and a Louisiana fishing trip were up for auction. The persuasive auctioneer Andrew Bost helped up the ante for the generous auction items coordinated by Cathy Bauer.
The final construction plans for Phase I have been approved by the City of Fayetteville Historic Preservation Committee.
