FAYETTEVILLE — Arts for Rural Texas (ARTS) cultivates children’s creativity and inspires adults with the Spectrum Lecture Series.
The program is an informative and entertaining series on culture, presented by local and renowned artists and experts of diverse and interesting backgrounds.
It allows participants to immerse themselves in learning and increase their knowledge of the arts.
ARTS is excited to announce the continuation of the Spectrum Lecture Series with “Why Shakespeare?” by “Doc” James Ayres. In this edition of the Series, Ayres will share the genesis and history behind the Shakespeare at Winedale program.
The lecture will be held on Sunday, April 14, at 2 p.m. at the ARTS Ross Gallery at 114 N. Live Oak St. in Fayetteville’s town square.

Ayres received his Ph.D. from Ohio State University in 1964 and went on to teach in the English Department at UT Austin from then until 2001, when he became a professor emeritus.
He has taught as a visiting professor at the University of London Royal Holloway, the University of Valencia, and UT Austin's Oxford Summer Program.
His many awards include being inducted into the Academy of Distinguished Teachers, the Liberal Arts Council Award for Teaching Excellence, and the Harry Ransom Award for Teaching Excellence.
He is the founding director of the Shakespeare at Winedale Program and has produced dozens of plays for the program.
