FAYETTEVILLE — The Fayetteville High School baseball team was held scoreless against Mumford High School April 2 at SPJST Park in Fayetteville by a final score of 8-0. Costly errors and wild throws from Fayetteville multiplied with big hits from Mumford in order for the Mustangs to pull through with the win.

"I saw a lot of fight," said Fayetteville head baseball coach Clint Jaeger.

“Mumford’s a dang good team. They always are.

They’re well coached. They always have good pitchers. They were on their game. We gave them a lot of runs. I’m proud of my guys. We’re getting better. That’s all that matters. We’re on our way.” Mumford didn’t score until the top of the third inning on a base hit, then added three more runs on a few more base hits and a couple walks in the same inning to take a 4-0 lead.

The Mustangs added on to their advantage two innings later on two botched balls, a base hit, and a sac- rifice bunt to put it at 6-0, which was followed by three walks that included a walked in run to increase their lead to 7-0. After a botched ball by Fayetteville on an infield fly in the top of the sixth inning, three stolen bases from Mumford with two being on pass balls and one at home scored Mum- ford's eighth and final run.

Fayetteville was unable to get their bats going in the last two innings to make for a 8-0 win in favor of Mum ford.
