WEIMAR — Weimar Wildcats baseball took a loss to Ganado High School April 5 at Veteran’s Park in Weimar by a final score of 19-4. The Indians poured it on the entire game with tons of hitting and Weimar wasn’t able to overcome the big deficit. "The first round, we came back and beat them in nine innings,” said Weimar head baseball coach Colton Maiorka. “It’s always a hard fought game when we play Ganado. This time around, they were out for blood. They came out and put it on us pretty good tonight, so we got to go back and win the next three hard games and hopefully get in the playoffs. That’s what our goal is for right now.”
Ganado scored three runs right away in the top of the first inning with a few base hits and a fielder's choice on a ground er to the shortstop that scored a run. Weimar’s Logan Kainer put his team within one at 3-2 when he connected on a base hit to left center that scored two runs in the bottom of the third inning. Ganado then made it 5-2 with a bomb over the centerfielder's head in the top of the fourth inning before adding another two more runs on a wild throw to put it at 7-2 to drive in the runners that connected on base hits in the top of the fifth inning.
The Indians continued to score in the same inning on a blooper to left, then a botched grounder at second base to put the score at 10-2. A double from Ganado, a botched ball in left field, and a wild throw after a grounder to third by Weimar
scored runs for the Indians once more and made it 13-2 in the top of the sixth inning. Weimar didn't go down without a fight and drove in two more runs on a single to center, but Ganado wasn’t done with their bats and scored six more runs in their next at bat on a wild throw, a few base hits and a fielder's choice to take a 19-4 lead. Ganado produced a one-two-three inning in the bottom of the seventh to close out a 19-4 victory.
