The Silver Drivers Safe Texans course is being offered through a collaboration between Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, City of La Grange, The Schulenburg Regency Villas, and the Fayette County Extension Office.
Silver Drivers Safe Texans will be offered at two locations on Thursday, June 13.
The first workshop will be hosted from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Randolph Recreation Center at 653 E. Pearl St. in La Grange in the General Assembly Room.
The second program will be from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Schulenburg Regency Villas at 205 East Ave., Suite A. in Schulenburg.
This course, “Silver & Safe” is designed specifically for mature drivers over 55 years of age who have been operating motor vehicles for decades and it is an alternative to the traditional defensive driving course states Sally Garrett, Fayette County Extension Agent-Family & Community Health.
At the end of the workshop, completion certificates will be available to participants.
“As we age, changes in our vision, flexibility, strength, range of motion and even size and height may make us less comfortable and reduce our control behind the wheel,” said Cindy Kovar, program manager of Silver Drivers Safe Texans. “Silver & Safe Mature Driver courses educate older adults on current issues effecting their ability to safely operate motor vehicles on today’s more congested roadways There is no cost for this program, but pre-registration is required in order that enough materials are available.
