OAKRIDGE — It just keeps getting bigger and better as the Oakridge Volunteer Fire Department opens up its doors to its new fire station for the annual fundraiser on May 4 in Oakridge near Weimar. The chicken fried steak dinner were not the only highlight of the day. Instead of pie in the sky, it was pie in the face as the Oakridge VFD chief and president got a taste of whipped cream. The event was filled with laughter, games, and the thrill of winning, making it a day to remember.
The station was filled with people who bought tickets for a chance to win a barrel of liquor, 50/50, and other fun games. The auction items had heavy bidders, with Auctioneer Al Schindler moving the prices up for a good cause. The new station is in its second year of operation, and it is debt-free thanks to generous support and fundraisers.
