EAGLE LAKE — At a recent meeting of the Eagle Lake Noon Lions Club, Ryan Simper, Tx-DOT area engineer and Paul Rodriguez, TxDOT assistant area engineer, reviewed various projects included in the 2024-2025 Yoakum District’s Rural Transportation Improvement Plan.

They reinforced TxDOT’s important safety campaign, “End The Streak.” Most crashes and fatalities are preventable by drivers following these important safety actions: always using seat belts, always driving the speed limit, driving only when sober, and especially driving without the distraction of our phones.

TxDOT is currently working on road safety in our district by installing roadside rumble strips and median barriers to prevent head-on crashes, widening lanes where needed, and resurfacing roadways. Projects to widen highways, add turn lanes, add median barriers, and install sidewalks are underway.

The district is also working on adding new traffic signals, up - grading existing traffic signals, and adding overhead lighting.
