Austin County Fair Scholarships winners announced

BELLVILLE – The Austin County Fair Association announced the 2024 recipients of the Austin County Fair Memorial Scholarships.

BELLVILLE — The Austin County Fair Association announced the 2024 recipients of the Austin County Fair Memorial Scholarships.

The Austin County Fair has been awarding scholarships in memory of deceased directors and deceased director’s spouses since 1992.

At that time, the scholarship program originally awarded six scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each.

Over the years, the fair association has been increasing scholarships.

In addition to the Memorial Scholarships awarded to Austin County 2024 graduating students, the following scholarships are also awarded through the fair association:

• The Harold Luhn Agricultural Memorial Scholarship is presented to an exhibitor who will pursue a career in agriculture.

Harold Luhn was an active member of the fair association and believed that the youth of Austin County world forever be our future. The Harold Luhn Memorial Scholarship is endowed by Chuck and Rita Scianna.

• The Ed Michalke Memorial Scholarship will be given in memory of Ed Michalke. Michalke was a longtime supporter of the Austin County Fair Association since the mid 60’s working with Austin County 4-H and FFA students. For 30 years, Michalke was a familiar face with the fair association, serving as security for the fair.

The Michalke family endows the Ed Michelle Memorial Scholarship.

• The Judy Tiemann Memorial scholarship will be awarded to an exhibitor that has been involved in the Calf Scramble program.

Judy Tiemann was a director of the fair association in 19972006 and was the founder of the Austin County Fair Calf Scramble program.

Tiemann began this program in 1990 with the purpose of teaching exhibitors the importance of the beef industry.

This program continues to strive to this day because of her dedication to the youth.

The Austin County Fair Association works hard all year committing many countless volunteer hours working toward their goal of continuing to raise scholarships.

The Austin County Fair Association will have awarded $1,158,250 in scholarships since 1992.

The Austin County Fair Association would like to extend their congratulations to all the graduating seniors in Austin County and wish them the best of luck in their future endeavors!

2024 AUSTIN COUNTY FAIR MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

The $6,000 scholarship recipients: Rachael Hohlt - Bellville High School; Lauren Lassus Bellville High School; Gauge McCain - Brazos High School; Paige Demny - Brazos High School; Avery Dittert - Sealy High School; and Kenna Schram - Sealy High School.

The $5,000 scholarship recipients: Colton Richardson - Brazos High School; Ryleigh Gilfoil - Sealy High School; and Rylan Reichardt - Sealy High.

The $4,500 scholarship recipients: Hunter Kunkel - Bellville High School; Kaylie Wybro - Bellville High School; Kadance Schneider - Brazos High School; and Emily Askew - Home School.

The $4,250 scholarship recipients: Cooper Hollomon - Bellville High School; and James Schumann - Bellville High School.
