The Columbus Volunteer Fire Department held its annual Firefighter Memorial for all the firefighters who had gone before them. The ceremony opened with the posting of the colors and a roll call of active and retired firefighters. After the invocation by Chaplain Alan Kethan, the memorial roll call by the fire chief and assistant fire chiefs was given. The solemn bell ceremony, a poignant tribute to fallen firefighters, was followed by the placing of the floral cross at the memorial monument, a symbol of remembrance and respect. Fire Chief Dusty Dittmar, right, explains the bell ceremony as First Assistant Fire Chief Richard LaCourse rings the bell according to tradition.
