Accidental firearm discharge wounds police officer

LA GRANGE - A firearm, a SIG Sauer P320 accidentally discharged while holstered by La Grange Police Officer Kev in Currington on May 9 in La Grange.

LA GRANGE - A firearm, a SIG Sauer P320 accidentally discharged while holstered by La Grange Police Officer Kev in Currington on May 9 in La Grange.

The bullet hit Currington below the knee causing extensive bleeding.

Life-saving actions by La Grange Officer Mitchell Max well and a private citizen helped stem the blood flow and poten tially saved Currington’s life.

Currington was transported to St. David’s Hospital in South Austin where he had surgery to repair the damage.

The P320 is the subject of multiple lawsuits following accidental discharges.

The Bastrop County Sheriff’s Office will commence an inde pendent investigation.

According to sources, Currington’s body camera shows the gun in his holster. Many area law enforcement agencies carry the Sig Sauer P320 and are now considering choosing different service weapons.
