The Austin County Retired Teachers Association is awarding three scholarships to local Austin County high school graduates this year.
The scholarships support local students interested in pursuing the teaching profession. This year’s recipients are graduates from Bellville High School, Brazos High School, and Sealy High School.
The Bellville High School scholarship is given to Brily Helms.
Helms will pursue a degree in early childhood education; her ultimate goal is to become an elementary music teacher.
The Brazos High School scholarship is given to Trey Gaston.
Gaston comes from a background of teachers and wants to follow in their footsteps. His goal is to coach high school basketball while teaching science or history.
The Sealy High School scholarship is given to Cheyenne Schwaller.
Schwaller plans to earn a dual degree in early childhood education and English. She first wants to become an ele mentary teacher.
While she teaches, she plans to work on earning graduate degrees and perhaps one day become a college professor.
