Long time Schulenburg coach Gilbert Price has retired after 16 years at Schulenburg and 29 years total as a coach.

Price was the head softball coach and assistant football coach for the Shorthorns and also coached multiple sports throughout his career.

He’s sent football players to the college and professional ranks while sending softball players to the next level as well.

“It was a great 16 years at Schulenburg,” said Price. “Had a great time working with all the coaches, especially Coach Zapalac. I’ve learned a lot every year I have coached anywhere. Schulenburg was great.”

Price was able to coach Johnnie Lee Higgins in football at Sweeny High School, who played five years for the Oakland Raid ers. He’s also sent softball players to play at the college level, such as Kyndal Kutac, Erica Otto and Macy Thompson.

“I’ve had the opportunity to coach some great kids in my 29 years,” Price continued. “I’ve enjoyed all 29 years. At Schulenburg, I have worked with some great people and I want to thank them for everything they did for me and my family.”

Price had the opportunity and ability to coach tons of athletes at different schools and had tremendous success as he knew how to push his players to their full potential, resulting in a number of his athletes playing ball in college and the pros.

With Price’s experience and success as a coach, he’s certainly earned a lifetime seat at the coaches table for his contributions, especially at Schulenburg.
