ville High School baseball team advanced again in the playoffs as they defeated Medina High School by a final score of 8-3 May 15 at Lago Vista ISD Fields in Lago Vista.
A closer game to start led to the Lions figuring out their bats and providing enough offense to get a solid win.
“We did enough to win,” said Fayetteville head baseball coach Clint Jaeger. “It was good to get the win, but I think we could do better. Jack pitched pretty good. Lost the command a little bit at times. They got some hits to kind of put us in some trouble there. Give credit to them. They’re a good hitting team. They got a lot of hits too. Overall, our guys just fought hard. You got to win when you’re not playing your best, so that’s what we did.”
Fayetteville junior batter Lawson Fritsch hit a huge triple in the bottom of the fifth inning to give his team some spark that eventually scored a run for the Lions.
"The first at bats I had, I felt good,” Fritsch said. “I was seeing the ball well, so then I came up there and just felt positive and confident. That's what I think helped me get that triple.”
Medina took a 3-2 lead in the top of the second inning on a fielder's choice before Fayette -ville snagged the lead right back with a walk, steal, and two base hits each from Kole Schmitt and Keagan Supak to make it 4-3.
Lions junior infielder Easton Jaeger then reached on an infield hit, which scored another run. Fritsch’s triple in the bottom of the fifth set up a base hit RBI for Schmitt, then Schmitt proceeded to steal home on a wild throw at third base to score Fayetteville’s final run. The Lions struck out the first two batters of Menard’s last at bat and a ground out sealed it for Fayetteville at 8-3.
Fayetteville will play Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday (May 28-30) at a site to be determined.
