AUSTIN — Bulldogs baseball kept their season alive with an impressive win May 25 at Concordia University Baseball Field by sneaking past Johnson City High School with a final score of 2-1. Flatonia played nearly per- fect in the field with solid pitch - ing and fielding while producing a good amount at the dish.
“In a one game series, I like our chances with our kids,” said Flatonia head baseball coach Shawn Bruns.
“We’re getting better each week right now. That’s all we can ask for at this point in the season.
I preach to them all year long, playoffs are the funnest. Baseball in the spring and summer time is just so much fun. A playoff game, it's just icing on the cake for these young men. I think they got their heads where they need to be right now. They need to keep working hard. We got to try to keep the bus rolling as best we can and just play the game.”
Flatonia pitcher and Texas A&M University baseball commit Titan Targac pitched a gem of a game and also added an insurance run at the plate in the bottom of the sixth inning. "It's amazing,” Targac said on being one of the leaders on the team.
“Having these guys around you, we have a connection like no one else. We gel together so easily. We just feel like a family."
The Bulldogs scored their first run in the bottom of the second inning on a wild throw for a steal attempt after two walks and another steal to make it 1-0. Flatonia didn’t score again or do much with their bats until Targac’s grounder to short that was botched and scored their second run. Flatonia catcher Beck Zimmerman previously reached on a base hit to centerfield to set up
a sacrifice bunt right before Tar gac putting the ball in play and adding to the scoreboard. Targac then sealed the game on the mound in the top of the seventh with a strikeout to win it 2-0.
