HALLETTSVILLE — The Columbus High School soft - ball team was defeated May 22 at Lady Brahmas Field by Hallettsville High School with a final score of 6-1. A big in - ning or two from Hallettsville did the job and the Lady Cardinals struggled to get their bats going throughout the game.
“We decided we were gonna go a little different way today and pitch our two freshman
girls against them,” said Co- lumbus head softball coach Alfred Rosa. "If you take away that third inning where we gave them five outs, it's a much closer ball game and I think we re- act a little differently in the end. I like what we did today. I wish we could’ve put the ball in play a little bit more, but it’s a very, very good team and they do enough just to win.”
Columbus found themselves down 2-1 in the bottom of the
third inning with the bases loaded before Hallettsville ju nior Hanna Zachary knocked a triple to the right-centerfield and put the score at 5-1.
Columbus then put together a few solid innings of defense, but went cold with their bats other than a double to the left field wall from sophomore infielder Aggie Rodriguez in the bottom of the fourth in ning and Hallettsville tallied their final run in the bottom of the sixth on a double to the right-centerfield wall after two base hits.
A fly out, strike out, and ground out from the Lady
Cardinals closed out the game for Hallettsville at 6-1.
