LA GRANGE — A 16-year-old La Grange High School student was arrested on May 21 for drugs and a stolen weapon while on La Grange school property.
School authorities questioned the student, and during a search of the student’s vehicle, marijuana was found inside the vehicle that was parked on school property. Upon further questioning, the student was found to be carrying a loaded 9 mm handgun. La Grange Police Chief David Gilbreath said he had been walking around school with it. The handgun has been reported stolen out of Jim Wells County. The parents are cooperating with the investigation while the juvenile refuses to answer any questions relating to the gun. The juvenile is charged with unlawful possession of a firearm on school premises, possession of stolen property and possession of marijuana. La Grange ISD currently has no walkthrough metal detectors on its campuses.
