CHS Class of ’53 holds reunion

The Columbus High School Class of 1953 held its 71st class reunion on April 27 at Pilsner’s Cafe near Alleyton. The CHS class was the first class to attend the Columbus school system for 12 years. Eugene Schobel was class valedictorian, and Dwight Smith was president. The remaining 14 members celebrated in 2023 and 2024. The 1953 class had 49 members to graduate and took their class trip to Pensacola, Fla. On hand for the celebration were, front row, from left, Virginia Solis Ellis, Jimmie Hod, Vernell Hohensee Angel, Dwight Smith, Patsy Wallace Jones and Eugene Schobel; and, back row, Vernon “Chick” Hohensee, Mildred Becak Walla, Billy Kruse, Dick Jones and Al Gene Chollett. Class members not able to attend were Marlene Parks Brandt, Leona Hower West and Jack Pesnell.
