HALLETTSVILLE — Flatonia High School baseball went down to Ganado High School May 30 at Brahmas Field in Hallettsville by a final score of 5-4 in extra innings. A back and forth ball game with both teams performing well on offense and defense led to extra innings and a walk off run for Ganado.

“They got more hits with guys in scoring position than we did,” said Flatonia head baseball coach Shawn Bruns. “Simple as that. They got more runs home than we did. That’s the difference. We pitched our ass off. We didn’t get enough hits.”

Ganado went ahead 2-1 in the bottom of the second inning after a balk from Flatonia and a walk, sacrifice bunt, and infield hit leading up to it. The Indians kept the inning going with three base hits and an intentional walk to make it 4-1. Flatonia battled back with a blooper to left field from junior catcher Beck Zimmerman after two walks, a steal and a double, putting the scoreboard at 4-2. The Bulldogs scored their third run on a fielder's choice af ter a grounder by Titan Targac.

Two previous walks and an infield hit helped score the run.

Flatonia ended up tying the game in their last at bat on a walk, sacrifice bunt, a double from Zimmerman and a single. Ganado looked like they were going to win the game in regulation with a base hit and two steals, but the Bulldogs were able to get out of the inning with a grounder and two strikeouts to send it into extras.

Flatonia went one-two-three in the top of the eighth on a strikeout, ground ball, and another strikeout before Ganado got things going right away in their final at bat with a walk, sacri -

fice bunt, steal, and then a wild pitch that scored the final run of the game in walk-off fashion to result in a 5-4 win for Ganado in eight innings.
