National Flag Day honors the adoption of the Stars and Stripes as our National symbol by the Continental Con- gress 246 years ago on June 14, 1777.

National Flag Day was the dream of Bernard J. Cigrand, a 19-year-old school teacher in Fredonia, Wisconsin. In 1885, Cigrand celebrated the first Flag Day by

placing a small flag in a bottle on his desk. Cigrand taught his students about the flag's history and recited a ceremo nial pledge. His efforts led to a national holiday.

Now, each year, on June 14, the flag is honored by Americans nationwide.

For over 125 years, KJZT Family Life have focused on participating in parish and community work projects and fundraisers to help those in need and work together to contribute to their hometowns and churches.
