MOVIE NIGHTS SCHEDULED

LA GRANGE — Come for a free movie, hot dogs, popcorn and drinks beginning at 6:30 p.m. for the Summer Movie Night Friday, June 21 and July 12 in the Fellowship Hall at New Life Methodist Church at 1215 N. FAIR CONTESTANTS BEING SOUGHT

COLUMBUS — Contestants are being sought for the Colorado County Fair Queen and Junior Queen contests to be held Saturday, Sept. 7 at the Founder’s Hall at the Colorado County Ag Complex and Fairgrounds. Girls between the ages of 15-18 can enter the Queen Scholarship Pageant and girls 11-14 can enter the Junior Queen Contest. Deadline to enter is Wednesday, July 10. An informational sign-up meeting for contestants or their parent will be held Tuesday, June 25 and Wednesday, June 26 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Colorado County Fairgrounds. LEGION TO HOLD ARTS/CRAFT SHOW WALLIS — The Wallis American Legion Post 200 will hold its 21st annual arts and craft show July 13 and 14 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Hamburgers and chopped beef on bun will be available for purchase as well as dessert and drinks. Admission is $1 for hourly door prizes. The first 20 shoppers per day will receive a gift. The event will include musical entertainment. STS. CYRIL & METHODIUS CELEBRATION DUBINA — The Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church will celebrate its 168th year Sunday, July 7 at the Dubina Community Hall in Dubina. The “Dubina Style” fried chicken and sausage dinner will begin serving at 11 a.m. Adult plates are $13. Adult take home plates through express to-go line. Sweepstakes drawing tickets are available for purchase. The drawing will be held Sunday, July 7 at 7 p.m. A country auction will begin at 1:30 p.m. Bingo will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Washer pitching tournament registration is 3 p.m. and tournament begins at 4 pm. Polka Mass will be held at 9 a.m. Free dance under the pavilion with polka and waltz music. Mark Halata & Texavia, and Lost Cause Band will play from noon to 7 p.m. There will be a antique and classic cars on site.

HUNTER SAFETY CERTIFICATION CLASS SET WEIMAR — Friends of the Weimar Public Library will be of- fering a Hunter Safety certification class Friday, July 19 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Certification is required for hunters in Texas. The class will be held at the Weimar Junior High cafeteria. Seating is limited and attendees must be registered to get into the class. EAGLE LAKE FIREWORKS SHOW SLATED EAGLE LAKE —The 26th Annual Eagle Lake Fireworks Show will be held Wednesday, July 3 beginning at 9:15 p.m. at the usual location on Calhoun Road in Eagle Lake. EL SENIOR CITIZEN DANCE SCHEDULE EAGLE LAKE — The schedule for the Eagle Lake Senior Citizen Dance held the first Friday of each month from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. at the Eagle Lake Community Center at 100 W. Walnut in Eagle Lake is: July 5-Al Sulak & The Country Sounds; Aug.

2-Blue Denim; Sept. 6-Boogie Allen; Oct. 4-Larry Waddell & The Southern Stars; Nov. 1-No dance-early voting at the community center; and Dec. 6-Blue Denim (Christmas Dance).

ST. JOHN TO HOLD ANNUAL JULY 4TH PICNIC SCHULENBURG — St. John Parish, located at 7026 FM 957 in Schulenburg, will celebrate the 136th year of its Annual 4th of July Picnic on Thursday, July 4. St. John the Baptist will hold mass at 9 a.m. and a flag raising ceremony will begin at 10 a.m.

The stew and fried chicken meal will begin serving, dine-in or take home, at 10:30 a.m. for $13 per plate. Musical entertainment begins at 10:30 a.m. A live auction will begin at 12:30 p.m. The event will include a raffle drawing at 8 p.m. and fireworks show at 9:30 p.m. The event will include beer, soda water, snow cones, hamburgers and more, country store, cake walk, ball throw, ring toss, lil diggers sandpile and more entertainment. FRIENDS OF SFA STATE PARK TO MEET SAN FELIPE — Friends of Stephen F. Austin State Park meet the last Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at the Nature Center in San Felipe. The meeting is open to the public, so please come and help support the park.

CVQG TO MEET

LA GRANGE — Colorado Valley Quilt Guild (CVQG) will be hosting Cynthia Regone at its upcoming guild meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 25 at the Randolf Recreation Center at 653 E. Pearl St., Room A East in La Grange. Regone will be giving a lecture on “Scrap Quilts...Too Much Is Never Enough” and who doesn’t have enough scraps? She will also present a Trunk Show with some of the quilts in her book, “Colorful Quilts...A Journey Through Fabric”. Come out and see some very beautiful quilts and make new friends. The guild meets the fourth Tuesday of each month. Guild meetings begin at 6 p.m. on even months and 10 a.m. on odd months. The meetings are always open to the public, so grab a friend and come learn more about this wonderful service organization right here in La Grange.
