LA GRANGE — fter being the head honcho for the La Grange High School golf team, James Zaruba has decided to take over the baseball duties as head coach for the 2025 season.
La Grange went 12-16 overall and 4-5 in district play and Zaruba looks to build on the culture this team has built over the years with a solid foundation, a foundation so solid that they’ve sent pros such as Homer Bailey to the major leagues, who had a respectable career in the MLB and even threw two no-hitters on the bump.
Zaruba is originally from Hallettsville and is eager to coach a team with a lot of tradition.
“I’m looking forward to the new start of the Leopard program,” said Zaruba. “I’ve be en here for five years and I already know the kids we have are great. I’m excited to get on the field and bring new ideas to the program.”
Zaruba also coached with current Flatonia head baseball coach Shawn Bruns, where he was part of back-to-back state championships in 2015 and 2016.
“Coaching baseball here has always been something I was hoping to do,” Zaruba continued.
La Grange will be getting a coach with quality experience and someone who’s already spent tons of time with Leopards athletics. The future looks very bright for La Grange baseball as Zaruba knows how to win and has been a Leopard for a long while.
