March 28, 1934 — June 17, 2024
Roy Lee Weishuhn, 90, of Ellinger, passed away on June 17, 2024. He was born to Florenz B. Weishuhn and Frieda Brokmeyer on March 28, 1934, at Post Oak Point, Texas, the third of six children.
He grew up in the Lone Oak and Frelsburg communities. He was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Frelsburg. He attended Henkhaus School, St. Joseph school, and then Columbus
High School. He served in the US Army for two years in Okinawa.
After returning home, he married Maynette Ella Stork. They made their home in Fayetteville and started their family there.
In 1964 he moved the family of five to Ellinger where he started Weishuhn Plumbing and Electric and became a master plumber and master electrician. He was instrumental in getting the Ellinger Sewer and Water system initiated in Ellinger and maintained the system for many years until he retired.
He was active in the Ellinger Chamber of Commerce, serving in several capacities, and the Ellinger Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of the Ellinger Hermann Sons, having served as president and vice president.
Roy was an avid trapper, hunter, fisherman, cattle rancher, and gardener. He enjoyed his hunting/trapping trips to Mason with his son, still shooting his last buck at the age of 88. He passed down these interests to his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He took care of his cattle, chickens and large garden until a few months before his death. He was a master 'fixer upper/rigger' of just about anything. He found great pleasure in dancing polkas and waltzes since he was a young boy, selling bottles to earn enough money to buy a ticket into the dance hall when needed. Roy and Maynette were the perfect dancing couple, dancing every chance they had. They passed along the love of dancing to their children, taking them to every dance with them when they were small.
After his wife passed away, he became quite creative in the kitchen, making dishes with the oddest combinations. He liked to experiment and was known to exclaim 'talk about good' after he had eaten his latest creation. Since he insisted on planting every square foot of the garden, he had many vegetables to can and share with the rest of the family. Having more than 40 chickens, he also provided the entire family with eggs.
He is survived by his children: Rae (Ben) Worrell and Dave (Lisa) Weishuhn; sister, Marie Von Minden; brothers: Emanuel (Jo Ann) Weishuhn, Waldo (Tina) Weishuhn, Leslie (Carol) Weishuhn; grandchildren: Erin (Scott) Avis, Brian Richter, Clayton Weishuhn, Cullen (fiancée, Megan Wells) Weishuhn; great grandchildren: Hadley Marie and Weston Roy Avis.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Maynette; his parents, Florenz B and Frieda Weishuhn; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Herbert and Viola Stork; daughter, Kae Lynn Sodolak; brother, Florenz C Weishuhn; sister-in-law, Jackie Weishuhn; brother-in-law and sister-in- law, Emmett and Elda Stork; brother-in-law, Edgar Von Minden.
