COLLEGE STATION — Rice football has shown more progress even before the season has started as they've qualified for the 7 on 7 state tournament.

The tournament will be held at Veterans Park & Athletic Complex at 3101 Harvey Rd. in College Station today (Thursday, June 27) and Friday, June 28.

They qualified at the Brazos SQT (State Qualifying Tournament) in May.

This is the first year to return to the state tournament after a 10-year drought.

They made it to state in 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014.

Rice is in Division 3, Pool D and will play Roosevelt High School in the first game today (Thursday, June 27) at 1 p.m., then will play Gunter High School on the same day at 2:30 p.m., then Harmony High School at 4 p.m.

All teams will play in a single- elimination Championship Bracket Friday, June 28 at 8 a.m.

This is a great sign for a surging Raiders team and this will certainly help them get going and get ready to start the 2024 season.
