Task force seizes narcotics in Columbus during raid

COLUMBUS — On June 24 at approximately, 11:45 p.m., members of the Austin County Regional Special Response Team (SRT) cond ucted an ope ration to execute

arrest and search warrants in Columbus. The operation was the result of an ongoing narcotics investigation by the Westside (HIDTA) Narcotics Task Force.

As a result of the operation, defendant Eric Belmonte, 39, was located and arrested for an active felony warrant for the charge of Manufacture and/or Delivery of a Controlled Substance PG 1.

Belmonte attempted to flee from the law enforcement at the time of his arrest but was taken into custody by SRT members without incident.

A search warrant was executed at the defendant's residence in the 400 block of Jones Street in Columbus.

TaskForce Officers seized crack cocaine, powder cocaine, methamphetamine, MDMA, marijuana, fentanyl and United States Currency.

The defendant was later booked into the Colorado County Jail in Columbus.

The Columbus Police Department and the Colorado County Sheriff's Office assisted with the operation.

The Westside Narcotics Task Force covers four counties and is comprised of investigators from the Austin County Sheriff's Office, Bellville PD, Sealy PD, Hempstead PD, Waller County Sheriff's Office, Fayette County Sheriff's Office, Colorado County Sheriff's Office, andDEA. TheAustinCountyDis- trict Attorney's Office assisted with the investigation.
