Columbus Education Foundation hosts summer celebration

COLUMBUS – Most people have heard of dueling banjos and fiddles, but "dueling spoons" is definitely a rare occurrence.

COLUMBUS — Most people have heard of dueling banjos and fiddles, but "dueling spoons" is definitely a rare occurrence.

The Columbus Education Foundation (CEF) will have area bak- ers "dueling" for extraordinary auction results on Saturday, July 20, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Hound Song Brewery at 535 Walnut St. in Columbus.

Chef Raoul of Chef Raoul Catering and Rachel Benjamin of Benjamin Baking Company will carefully watch the auction action to see who gets the highest reward to benefit CEF's goals. All bakers, both professional and home bakers, will strengthen educational opportunities by whisking up some delectable treats.

The funds raised will make a difference in the lives of CISD students through scholarships and classroom grants.

Celebrate summer and enjoy complimentary Hound Song appetizers courtesy of Tri-County Realty/Double G Group and Kotrla AC and Heating.

A cash bar serving your choice of award-winning craft beers, non-alcoholic "mocktails" or soft drinks can be sipped while you watch the fun.

Board member Becca Edmiston will share a video of 3,000 rubber ducks racing at "current" speed on the Colorado River at the Columbus Duck Derby. Witness the frightful looks on the faces of volunteers in kayaks and boats trying to control and contain the bobbing yellow mob.

CEF, a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation, involves the community in events to raise funds for a two-prong mission of creating scholarships and grants.

Scholarships are for both college and trade/tech schools for CISD grads. The classroom grants are awarded through competition on all three campuses.

In grant applications, teachers share their dream project in hopes of getting supplies or equipment to implement that "beyond-the-budget" classroom dream.

Because of community support, 22 new scholarships were awarded in May of 2024.

Memorial donations and alumni gifts meld into opportunities that could not happen without a generous community.

Last year, six classroom grants were awarded to teachers in grades K-12 from donors’ designated gifts.

There’s still time to participate in the auction by bringing a family-favorite dessert.

Help CEF make a difference.
