Members of the Daughters of American Revolution, John Everett Chapter, awarded checks to three local school libraries.
The recipients of the DAR donations were Eagle Lake Primary School, Eagle Lake Intermediate School, and St. Anthony Catholic School on Jan. 30.
These grants were made available to the chapter in part through a national initiative, America 250!, in celebration of the nation's upcoming semiquin-centennial in 2026. The donations were given to provide American history and biography books for the students, especially volumes that identify the contributions of underrepresented and diverse patriots who helped to win the American War of Independence. America 250! Chair Connie Dittrich, also presented a book on Spanish General Bernardo de Galvez, to each school library. On hand to present these awards were Chapter Regent Marti Herring and Chapter Literacy Committee Chair Donna Pustejovsky. Librarians Cherie McCain and Sylvia Gonzalez of the Eagle Lake Primary School, Sharon Geigley and Kaylen Neubauer of the Eagle Lake Intermediate School and Joan Hill of St. Anthony Catholic School were all excited to receive the additional funds to add to their collections or book drives. The Daughters of the American Revolution is open to any daughter of a decendant of soldiers who served in the American Revolution.
