SCHULENBURG FESTIVAL TO BE HELD SCHULENBURG – The Schulenburg Festival will be held Thursday, Aug. 1 through Sunday, Aug. 4 at Wolters Park in Schulenburg. The rodeo will be held Friday and Saturday. SENIORS TOGETHER SOCIAL SCHEDULE Seniors Together, a place for senior’s, 55 years or older to so- cialize with others is held every first and third Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the St. Paul Lutheran Church Lighthouse Fellowship Hall at 201 Veteran’s Dr. in Columbus. and at the Weimar Civic Center in Weimar on the second and fourth Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The events includes card games, board games, Bingo with prizes, coffee and tea, movies, lunch provided, educational speakers, field trips including trips to casinos and so cial gathering.

CISD SEASON FOOTBALL TICKETS AVAILABLE COLUMBUS — Columbus Independent School District football season tickets will go on sale from Aug. 5 through Aug. 9 at The Christopher Kilpatrick Memorial Center in Columbus from 8 to 11 a.m. (athletic secretary's office – Brenda Skutca). Last year's season ticket holder may purchase tickets Aug. 5 through Aug. 6.

Tickets will be available for the parents of the students participat- ing on the field on Friday nights on Aug. 7. All others may pur chase tickets beginning Aug. 8. The season ticket is $30. Games include Sept. 6 vs. La Grange (senior night), Sept. 13 vs. Needville, Sept. 27 vs. Bellville (homecoming), Oct. 18 vs. Yoakum and Nov.

1 vs. Hallettsville.

WEIMAR CHESS CLUB TO BEGIN

WEIMAR - The Weimar Chess Club (WCC) meets every Tuesday from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. beginning Aug. 6 at the Weimar Public Library in Weimar. The WCC is free to ages 5 to adult. David McCall is the club sponsor. He is a retired science teacher (15 years), elementary school counselor (20 years) and has 19 years experience as a scholastic chess coach. He will provide free chess instructions and start each WCC meeting with a short lesson, which is followed with casual play time following International Chess Federation rules. LIONS DANCE CLUB TO HOLD DANCE TO SEALY - The Lions Sealy Dance Club is having a dance on Saturday, Aug. 3 at the Sealy American Legion Hall in Sealy.

The band, Al Sulak and the County Sounds, will be providing live music from 7:30 to 11 p.m. The public is always welcome to attend.

EL SENIOR CITIZEN DANCE SCHEDULE EAGLE LAKE — The schedule for the Eagle Lake Senior Cit- izen Dance held the first Friday of each month from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. at the Eagle Lake Community Center at 100 W. Walnut in Eagle Lake is: Aug. 2-Blue Denim; Sept. 6-Boogie Allen; Oct.

4-Larry Waddell & The Southern Stars; Nov. 1-No dance-early voting at the community center; and Dec. 6-Blue Denim (Christ- mas Dance).

ST. MICHAEL PLANS HARVEST FEAST WEIMAR — St. Michael Catholic Church Harvest Feast will be held Sunday, Aug. 11 at Veteran’s Memorial Hall in Weimar.

The fried chicken and stew dinner will be $13 per plate. Serving starts at 11 a.m. Pick-up and picnic drive-thru and go will be available at St. Michael’s Family Center in Weimar. The event will include Mass at 10:30 a.m., auction at 1 p.m., Bingo from 2 to 5 p.m., country store, treasure chest, ring toss, antique and classic car show, famous picnic burgers, snow cones, snack bar, fish pond, train ride, Plinko, ball throw and more. Free dancing and music from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. with entertainment by Shiner Hobo Band, The Lost Cause Band and The Bigfoot Wallace Band.

There will be a drawing for sweepstakes prizes.

SACRED HEART PLANS FALL PICNIC HALLETTSVILLE — Sacred Heart Parish will hold its Fall 2024 Picnic Sunday, Sept. 1 at the KC Hall in Hallettsville. Country fried chicken, stew and homemade cornbread dressing meal will be served from 10:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the KC Hall. Drive-thru plates-to-go will be available from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Meal tickets are $13. A short memorial will be held at 12:30 p.m. An auction sale will begin at 12:30 p.m. A 20 Grand Giveaway, with top prize a $10,000 gift card, will be given away at the event. The event will also include a cake walk, country store, religious articles booth and Bingo from noon to 6 p.m. Washer pitching tournament begins at 5 p.m. There will be hamburgers, nachos, popcorn, snowcones, lemonade and soda water all afternoon. Music will be provided by Kovanda Czech Band from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

A free dance with music by Red Ravens and Dujka Brothers will be held from 1 to 8 p.m. in the Polka Pavilion/Biergarten. There will be 33 cash certificate prizes to be given away after the auction (total value $11,150).

BEEKEEPERS MEETING PLANNED LA GRANGE — The Fayette County Beekeepers Association (FaycoBeeks) will have their next meeting Saturday, Aug. 3 at the Fayette County Agriculture Building at 255 Svoboda Ln. in La Grange. For anyone interested in learning about beekeeping, there will be a Beekeeping 101 presentation, “Honey Bee Pests and Diseases” from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. A potluck dinner will follow, please bring your favorite entrée, side or dessert to share. Afterwards, there will be a business meeting, and a presentation by Brandon Karisch, appraiser, with the Fayette County Appraisal District.

This is a great opportunity for new beekeepers to meet with club members that can serve as mentors and advisors. Membership dues for 2024 are $25/year, individual or family. Membership is not required to attend meetings, FaycoBeeks welcomes all attendees and encourages beekeepers and their families to join.
