ST. MARY'S FESTIVAL/HOMECOMING SET

WEIMAR - The Weimar Chess Club (WCC) meets every Tuesday from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. at the Weimar Public Library in Weimar. The WCC is free to ages 5 to adult. David McCall is the club sponsor. He is a retired science teacher (15 years), elementary school counselor (20 years) and has 19 years experience as a scholastic chess coach. He will provide free chess instructions and start each WCC meeting with a short lesson, which is followed with casual play time following International Chess Federation rules. NADA - St. Mary's Church (Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary) in Nada will hold its festival and homecoming Sunday, Sept. 1. A barbecue beef and sausage dinner will be served from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Adults and plates to go are $12 and $6 for children under 12. Barbecue sandwiches, nachos, sweets and more will be available from 1:30 to 7 p.m. Live auction begins at 1 p.m. Bingo will be played from 1 to 7 p.m. The event will also include a raffle drawing, linen baskets and more, country store, plant and cakewalk, kids games and fun. There will also be music and dancing inside the hall.

SEALY KC TO SERVE PORK STEAK

SEALY - The Sealy Knights of Columbus will be serving their famous grilled pork steak drive-thru dinner for only $13 a plate on Sunday, Aug. 18, at the Sealy Columbus Club (KC) Hall at 1310 Hwy 90 West in Sealy. Serving from 10:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. (or until sold out). A portion of the proceeds from this event will benefit the Sealy Christian Food Pantry.

PARISH PICNIC PLANNED

HIGH HILL - St. Mary Catholic Church Parish Picnic will be held Sunday, Sept. 1 in High Hill. The event will begin with a flag-raising ceremony at 9:30 a.m. There will be a Polka Mass at 10 a.m. followed by a cake walk at 11 a.m., and corn hole at 1 p.m. A fried chicken and stew dinner will be served beginning at 10:30 a.m. at a cost of $14 per plate. Drive-thru entrance from F 2672 northbound only. There will be a hamburger stand, sausage stand, nachos and soda water stand. A live auction will begin at 1 p.m. A sweepstakes drawing, with over 60 prizes, will be held at noon. A drawing will be every hour on the hour until the final drawing at 8 p.m. Other activities include train rid, bounce house, etc. Music will be provided by Texas Sound Czech and Mark Halata/Texavia during the day, and Texas Sundown will provide the music that evening for the free dance. A fireworks show will start at 10 p.m.

EL SENIOR CITIZEN DANCE SCHEDULE EAGLE LAKE - The schedule for the Eagle Lake Senior Citizen Dance held the first Friday of each month from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. at the Eagle Lake Community Center at 100 W. Walnut in Eagle Lake is: Sept. 6-Boogie Allen; Oct. 4-Larry Waddell & The Southern Stars; Nov. 1-No dance-early voting at the community center; and Dec. 6-Blue Denim (Christmas Dance).

SACRED HEART PLANS FALL PICNIC HALLETTSVILLE - Sacred Heart Parish will hold its Fall 2024 Picnic Sunday, Sept. 1 at the KC Hall in Hallettsville. Country fried chicken, stew and homemade cornbread dressing meal will be served from 10:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the KC Hall. Drive-thru plates-to-go will be available from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Meal tickets are $13. A short memorial will be held at 12:30 p.m. An auction sale will begin at 12:30 p.m. A 20 Grand Giveaway, with top prize a $10,000 gift card, will be given away at the event. The event will also include a cake walk, country store, religious articles booth and Bingo from noon to 6 p.m. Washer pitching tournament begins at 5 p.m. There will be hamburgers, nachos, popcorn, snowcones, lemonade and soda water all afternoon. Music will be provided by Kovanda Czech Band from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A free dance with music by Red Ravens and Dujka Brothers will be held from 1 to 8 p.m. in the Polka Pavilion/Biergarten. There will be 33 cash certificate prizes to be given away after the auction (total value $11,150).

PRAHA PICNIC TO BE HELD

PRAHA - The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Praha Picnic (169th Prazská Pout) will be held Thursday, Aug. 15 in Praha. Holy Mass will be held at 10 a.m. The Praha stew and fried chicken dinner will be served at 11 a.m. dine-in or plates to go for $14 per plate. A live auction will begin at 1 p.m. Bingo will be played from 2 to 6 p.m. Other activities include cake walk, country store, fish pond, ring toss, souvenirs and toy box. Entertainment will be provided by Ennis Czech Boys, Texas Sound Czech Band and Lost Cause band from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Food will be available throughout the afternoon and evening. Fayetteville's Annual Church Feast

FAYETTEVILLE - The Fayetteville St. John The Baptist Catholic Church will hold their annual picnic Sunday, Sept. 1, at St. John's Recreation Hall in Fayetteville. A Mass with Polka music will be held at 10 a.m. with local musicians taking part in the Mass. There will be a barbecue pork and sausage dinner served at 10:30 a.m. Plates to go at the hall and a drive-thru line will also be available at 10:30 a.m. Area musicians will provide live music starting at 11 a.m. under the pavilion. Barbecue and sausage burgers will be sold beginning at 1:30 p.m. A country auction including quilts, antiques, coins, etc. will be held at 1:30 p.m. There will be bingo at 2 p.m. in the hall and kolaches and other pastries will be available throughout the day. Other events include children's games, silent auction, cake wheel, and ice cold refreshments.

FRIENDS OF SFA STATE PARK TO MEET SAN FELIPE - Friends of Stephen F. Austin State Park meet the last Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at the Nature Center in San Felipe. The meeting is open to the public, so please come and help support the park.
