COLUMBUS — From roadside stands to truck farming to country markets, small-scale farmers, homemakers and bakers create delicious delicacies and craft items no one knew they needed. Vendors search where to sell their wares at the best country markets around, and this tri-state area has several to choose from. However, smaller country markets are popping up, and sellers meet buyers, which is a win-win situation.
One such small country market is the Columbus Farmers Market, established in 2014. It’s not just a market, it’s a community. Farmers, gardeners and crafters from all walks of life set up during Saturdays On the Square on the second Saturday of each month from March through December on the lawn of the Colorado County Courthhouse in Columbus, creating a vibrant and connected community.
Its mission is to expose the community’s youth to the importance of running a small independent business, such as raising livestock, running a lemonade stand, making metal art, selling baked goods, or participating in other projects.
Keep it local and visit all the farmer’s markets, from the little ones to the big ones. It is an exciting outing for the family.
