In Austin County, where 10.4 percent of residents face financial hardship, education stands as a crucial pathway out of poverty.
By equipping students with essential school supplies, we enhance their ability to engage fully in their education and improve their prospects for future academic and economic success. Moreover, this support alleviates some of the financial strain on families already struggling.
The Back-to-School Health Fair, held on July 18, was an event made possible by the generosity of the Bellville Lion’s Club, Woodmen Life of Sealy and Bellville, CJ’s Tax Service of Bellville, and the Bellville Meat Market. Hosted at Bellville High School by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service of Austin County, the Department of State Health Services of Austin County, and the Austin County Family and Consumer Sciences Advisory Board, the fair welcomed 375 participants.
Over 300 backpacks filled with school supplies were distributed to students from Austin County schools and Met Head Start during the event.
Additionally, attendees had the chance to access various screenings and family services provided by 30 vendors, represented by 42 individuals, all at no cost.
The Back-to-School Health Fair was not just an event, but a mission. It was about providing necessary supplies, fostering community support, and ensuring equal access to educational opportunities.
It was a significant step towards helping children reach their full potential, regardless of their financial circumstances in theses trying times.
