Resolution in opposition to wind farm development passes unanimously

LA GRANGE — The Commissioners Court of Fayette County recently signed a resolution in support of landowners in Fayette County who are voicing opposition to the possibility of wind turbines being placed at various locations. County Judge Dan Mueller and Court Administrator Cassie Austin presented the resolution, which was approved unanimously by the commissioners court. Tj Mac of Swiss Alp and Wendy Syrinek of Middle Creek accepted the resolution.

RESOLUTION IN OPPOSITION TO WIND FARM DEVELOPMENT OF THE COMMISSIONERS COURT OF FAYETTE COUNTY, TEXAS WHEREAS, the citizens and community members of Fayette County, Texas have expressed significant con cerns about the implementation and development of a windmill farm in Fayette County.

WHEREAS, the Fayette County Commissioners Court shares the same concerns on the impact of a commercial project might have on the local environment and economy.

WHEREAS, the Commissioners Court of Fayette County, Texas ('Fayette County') desires to ensure that any commercial projects implemented in Fayette County benefit and cause no harm to the community, economy, and environment of Fayette County.

IT IS THEREFORE RESOLVED THAT the Commissioners Court of Fayette County, Texas encourages the state legislature to enact common sense legislation that grants counties in Texas the ability to protect their communities and environments from implementation of harmful development; BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT the Commissioners Court of Fayette County, Texas supports the Texas Legislature in enacting common-sense implementations of mandatory wind farm and wind turbine bonding minimums set and enforced at the state level in Texas to ensure that counties in Texas do not pay to further subsidize the cost of wind farms and wind turbines decommissioning; BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT the Commissioners Court of Fayette County, Texas, urge the Texas legislature to enact laws protecting Texans from further subsidization of wind farms in Texas; BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT the Commissioners Court of Fayette County, Texas supports the Texas Legislature in enacting of legislation in Texas requiring all components ofwind turbines and wind farms to be fully recycled; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT the Commissioners Court of Fayette County, Texas supports and requests from any entity seeking to enact a commercial wind farm in Fayette County, Texas submit, at a minimum, environmental and economic impact studies to the Court prior to taking any development action on such a project.
