Record-breaking dove season ahead

Texas has been called the 'dove-hunting-est' state in the union, and the upcoming season will testify to that.

According to Texas Parks and Wildlife Department surveys, mourning dove numbers are up a healthy 21 percent, and whitewinged doves are at the highest numbers ever recorded in Texas: 12.8 million.

Dove season opens on Sunday, Sept.1 in the North and Central Zones, and the South Zone's Special White-Winged Dove Days also start on Sept.1. For all regulation information, refer to the updated Outdoor Annual online or the app.

Anyone born after Sept. 1, 1971, must complete Hunter Education to hunt in Texas. Once completed, you can find your Hunter Ed certificate online. Remember to buy a license and review the Dove Season Checklist TPWD website to be sure you're ready for this extraordinary season.
