Rumor versus Reality

I seen it on the News…..Facebook…. X……TikTok…..

• Remember, every state has different election laws. The State of Texas has many laws in place to protect your vote. The Colorado County Election Administrator can only answer for what happens here.

• There is a lot of “partial” in- formation that floats around that doesn’t present all the facts. Get the whole picture, do your own research. Don’t “share” something because you are just “wow” or it’s a knee jerk reaction because you are in shock. Sharing partial information or information that might not be relevant to your state isn’t helpful to getting factual information out.

• There is a lot of “misin- formation" floating around that doesn’t present the facts. Do your own research and get facts.

“Commenting” on a post that has “misinformation” is great IF you have the facts and you are trying to get the correct information out there, but commenting without facts only helps spread the false information.

• Resources to assist you: Col- orado County Election Office at 979-732-6860, call or drop by 1117 Travis St. in Columbus or https://www.co.colorado.tx.us/ page/colorado. Elections; Texas Secretary of State https://www. sos.state.tx.us/elections/index. shtml or the Texas Attorney General at https://texasattor-neygeneral. gov/initiatives/election- integrity.

• “They” don’t want poll watchers. Poll watchers and poll workers have two different positions in the election process. Both positions in every state, including Texas, are made up of volunteers.

In Colorado County, the volunteers that make up both positions are your relatives, neighbors and friends. Do we need poll watchers? Absolutely, but we need poll worker spots filled first.

You can’t watch something that doesn’t have workers performing the process. If you are not confi dent in the election process, learn the process and be a part of the process.

• Elections are particularly vulnerable to Artificial Intelli gence (AI) driven disinformation. Known tactics: Deepfake videos, altered images, Voice Cloning and Text-to-text

• Colorado County Elections does not have any social media.

There are too many opportunities for hacking or cyber hacking, and there is limited staff to monitor consistently.

If citizens want to share Colorado County election information such as sample ballots, notices, or polling locations straight from the source – please do! Share with confidence.

• Bottom line – don’t believe everything you see or hear. Get the facts, the whole picture and know what applies to you and your state/county/precinct.

Go straight to the source and don’t be afraid to ask questions.
