Rumor versus Reality

Illegals get to Vote

• The State of Texas requires “wet signatures” for voter registration. Texas is only one of eight states that does not allow “online” voter registration, with the exception of existing registered voters who are making a change to their current registration record.

• When you register to vote, you swear you are a US Citizen and will be prosecuted if this is found incorrect.

• Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) will provide the Secretary of State (SOS) with data reflecting individuals who presented evidence of non-U.S. citizenship at their last DPS visit in which they were issued a new or renewed driver license or personal identification card.

- Non-US citizens can obtain a driver’s license with “evidence of lawful presence”; however, the license has a different appearance and is indicated as such.

- When the Voter Registrar enters the voter registration application into the state system, it is checked against the DPS data.

• If a voter registrar has reason to believe that a person is not eligible for registration, the registrar must notify the voter in writing that their registration status is being reviewed.

- A voter can prove U.S. citizenship in several ways, including presenting a copy of: a U.S. birth certificate; Consular Report of Birth Abroad of a Citizen of the United States issued by the United States Department of State; U.S. passport; Certificate of naturalization of the voter; Certificate of natu ralization of the voter’s parent (along with the voter’s foreign birth certificate) that allowed the voter to become a U.S. citizen while he or she was a minor; or any other form prescribed by the Secretary of State.

- If an individual does not respond within the deadline given in the letter of review than the voter registration is cancelled.

• In Texas, you must register 30 days in advance so that there is time to check the eligibility of voters.

• The Secretary of State (SOS) reports cancellation trends are a matter of public record.

- ht tps://www. sos. st ate. tx.us/elections/team/cancellation- trend-reports/index.shtml - In June of 2024, there were nine “non-citizen” cancellations out of the entire state of Texas, that is an estimated 17.9 million registered voters.

- Colorado County had zero “non-citizen” attempts to register to vote.
