Columbus smokes Cuero in football season opener

By BRIAN PIERSON Banner Press Sports

CUERO - Cardinals football has picked up where they left off with pure dominance Aug. 30 against Cuero High School with a final score of 65-24. Columbus senior quarterback and TCU football commit Adam Schobel went 15/18 passing and threw for 233 yards and a whopping five touchdowns. Other performers were Grayson Ridden with 245 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries, as well as Braylon Fisher and Camdon Pitchford with two touchdowns each. Fisher had 127 yards receiving and Pitchford had 64 yards.

Head coach Matt Schobel has this team playing elite football once again and there will likely be a lot of games like this throughout the season as it's been this way for the majority of Schobel's career as head coach. With great talent and his son Adam at quarterback as a senior, this team is a heavy favorite to head to Jerry World for a shot at a state championship.
