Rumor versus Reality

DMINISTRATOR Anybody can use my voter

registration certificate to vote.

Voter registration certificates are recommended to bring when voting, a state issued picture ID is REQUIRED. For a full list see https://www.votetexas.gov/ voting/need-id.html.

If you don’t have your vot- er registration certificate for any reason when it comes time to vote that is fine, you ONLY need your state issued picture ID mentioned above.

Voter registration certificates can show voters what precinct they vote in, what districts they live in, and what races they are qualified to vote in.

Clearing out voter rolls is a process that takes place in the state of Texas every two years.

If a voter is put into “suspense” for any reason and the status is not updated over a two-year period, and the voter hasn’t voted you are removed from the voter rolls and a person must re-register if they are eligible. This is just another method of keeping voter registration records accurate. Always check the status of your voter registration BEFORE going to the polls if you don’t have a current voter registration certificate.

Certificates can, in some cases, be used as proof of local residency and as supplemental identification.

In rare cases there have been mix ups at the polls of common households that got certificates switched which caused confusion for poll workers.

Colorado County poll workers are trained to look at everything that is handed to them. If you are waiting in line to vote, rest assured the poll worker is just taking time to do their job correctly.

If you feel like some type of mix up happened speak to your poll worker or your election administrator and get resolution to get your vote counted.
