Knights compete at Shiner

SHINER — Shiner High School hosted their annual cross country meet, Sept. 7 at Green Dickson Park in Shiner.

Twelve 1A - 4A schools were excited to race that morning, welcoming the cool late summer temperatures.

Towards the end of the race the runners are challenged with a long gradual steep hill. At the top they turn and race downhill on a wide open grass field to the finish.

The varsity boys 5K had 30 runners.

Taking the lead from the start, Faith Academy's Ethan Stegent continued to build his lead throughout the 3.2 miles and fin - ished first, a minute and a half in front of second place. Not being pushed throughout the race, he ran an 18:22 which is way off his PR 16:48.

The junior varsity girls 2-mile race had 20 runners. Faith Academy had two runners in the Top 10.

Daniella Skardenni placed third running a PR 14:53 and Jocelyn Eckermann finished eighth, also running a PR 16:31. Both girls took off a minute of their time from the previous meet.

The Knights Junior Varsity runners Everett Miglicco, seventh, and Eva Broadbent, sixth, were also able to boast season best finishes. Miglicco raced against 50 runners and came across the finish line 14th, run ning a PR 14:03. Broadbent, run- ning her first ever cross county meet ran an impressive 17:47 and placed 26th out of 44 runners.

The team for the first time will go to the 36th Annual Moulton Meet, Saturday, Sept. 14 held at the Moulton City Park.
