LA GRANGE — On Sunday, Oct. 20, the League of Women Voters of South Central Texas will kick off 'Women Making History: Her Story Is Our Story' with a special event at the Historic Casino Hall in La Grange.
Each March, the league celebrates Women's History Month by recognizing special women in our South Central Texas community.
In 2023, they recognized the eight women serving as our South Central Texas town mayors. In 2024, they invited area high school students to submit essays recognizing women who had touched their lives. All present at the 2024 event were moved by presentations of essays and poems, the 'best of the best' from seven area students.
The league is grateful for the wonderful feedback they received from both events. Many community members have told them how important these inspiring stories of local women and their contributions are. For Women Making History 2025, the League wants to grow and celebrate this idea. They believe the most powerful way for them to recognize women whose stories need to be honored is to invite the whole community to help!
For the Women Making History 2025 Kickoff Celebration on Oct. 20 at La Grange's Historic Casino Hall, the league will share how community members, local organizations, and businesses can nominate women they feel deserve special recognition. They will honor the 'best of the best' at their Women Making History event on March 9, 2025.
At the kickoff, the league will also announce the opening of the second year of their Student Writing Showcase, inviting area high school students to submit an essay or poem about a historic Texas woman who deserves special recognition.
In keeping with their theme, 'Her Story Is Our Story,' local author, artist and storyteller Sally Reynolds will be a special guest for the day to talk about the power of people's stories.
The league invites everyone to join them on Sunday, Oct. 20, at La Grange's Historic Casino Hall from 3 to 5 p.m. to learn how you can honor the powerful role that women are playing in our community.
Help inspire future generations by nominating a woman from our community to be recognized on March 9, 2025, at our 2025 Women Making History event.
