WEIMAR — The Weimar High School volleyball team went down to Flatonia High School in an area matchup Oct. 8 at Wildcats Gym in Weimar by a final score of 21-25, 2125, 20-25. As each set was close, Fla- tonia found ways to produce points in big moments. “Relentless hard work of building culture as well as trust amongst teammates,” said Fla tonia head volleyball coach Lauren

Hoffman on the win. “Successful,

competitive young women who are brave and willing to do what it takes.

In turn, the expectation is to compete and win.”

Sophomore Katelin Sullivan recorded 13 kills along with four aces and came up with some clutch points down the stretch. “I wasn’t able to hit a backer attack until this sum mer," Sullivan said on getting a lot of

kills towards the back of the court.

"We've been able to use it as a utility for me. I also get just another option in the back row if we can’t put the ball away.”

Weimar is still a very solid team and will likely get back to their win - ning ways sooner rather than later.

“I just think that after the big win against Schulenburg, we didn’t come out prepared for what Flatonia has,” said Weimar head volleyball coach Amanda Machicek. “They’re young, they’re scrappy, and you can tell right now that they’re ready to win and they’re hungry. I don’t think we came prepared for that.”

Both teams consistently traded points throughout the first set and the biggest leads Flatonia had during the set were both of four points toward the end of the set at 24-20 and 2521. Before that, the biggest lead they

had was of three points when leading at 21-18 on a kill from senior Katie Templeton, then a 19-16 lead on a tip ball from sophomore hitter Greenli VanZandt. The winning point for the

ultimate 25-21 score was on a kill from Flatonia to capture the first set.

The second set was a little more lopsided in Flatonia's favor, but Weimar was able to come back and even tie the score at 17 on a tip ball.

Before hand, a tip ball of their own from the Lady Bulldogs put them ahead 15-10. Even though Weimar made an impressive run to tie the set

late, a tip ball from Weimar’s Taylor Smith made it 24-20 in favor of Flatonia, then a kill from Sullivan won the set for Flatonia 25-21.

The third set was much closer as

each team never really gained that big of a lead, even though Flatonia was able to pull away towards the end and scored the last three points to win the set. Set three was made up of a bunch of kills from the two teams, just a few more mistakes made by Weimar. As Flatonia had a 23-20 lead on a ball out of bounds by Weimar, they closed out the set with another kill from Sullivan and another ball out of bounds from the Lady Wildcats to win the set and match for Flatonia 25-20.
