BELLVILLE — Brahmas boys soccer scraped out a victory February 24 at Brahmas Stadium by a final score of 2-1. Bellville struck first with a goal later in the first half that was matched by Hempstead about midway through the second half, then Bellville netted a clutch goal in the final minutes to protect home field. "I don't think we played particularly well,” said Bellville head boys soccer coach Ben Powell.

"One thing I can always say about our boys is they hustle their butts off. They just do not stop. They get those moments when they settle themselves down and play like they know how to play, they can play with anybody. We can score quickly, it’s all down to their hustle. I don’t think we played particularly well tactically, but they’re an 80 minute team. They play whistle to whistle and they’ll probably be hard to beat.”

Brahmas forward Erick Aguilar cashed in on what would be the game-winning goal in the fi - nal minutes. "We just needed to pass it wide, do our thing,” Agu- ilar said. "Like coach said, we pass it wide and get some shots in, we will score.”

Bellville scored their first goal at the 11:21 mark in the first peri od after a few shots on goal and one from Hempstead to take a 1-0 lead at halftime. Hempstead then scored with 25:36 to go in the second half to tie the game at one with a shot on the right side of the net. The Bobcats went on to attempt two more shots on goal, one on a cross, then Aguilar’s goal for Bellville with 2:39 to play clinched the win at 2-1.
