KINGWOOD — The Faith Academy Knights travelled over to Kingwood to take on Cove- nant Prep in their first district play in three years (as a member of TAPPS).
The Knights jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. The Knights were favored by 36 in the contest and ended up winning by 45 points, 65-20.
The Knights picked up where they left off, running for over 350 yards on the ground and eight TDs.
The offensive line of sophomores Kayden Marcotte and Wyatt Davis, and senior Dylan Callihan, has really opened some eyes this year with their blocking schemes.
They have been a cornerstone in the run game for the Knights. Faith was led Friday by junior running back Jackson Dunn. Dunn accumulated 238 yards on 13 carries and four TDs.
Senior Travis Woodley added three TDs of his own to add his total of the year to 38 through eight weeks. His TDs came on passes from 26 and 28 yards, and added a run of 14. Woodley also led the FA Knights on the defensive side of the ball with 13 tackles, a sack, and a forced fumble. Junior QB Christian Pillow marched the Knights up and down the field the entire contest before they finally ended it with the 45-mercy rule.
Junior Joshua Stark also added some yards of his own. The junior added a 41 yard TD run, outrunning the entire Covenant defense.
Sophomore QB Dyllan Olivares was asked to step in during the fourth quarter after Pillow went out with a rib injury on a big block. Olivares picked up right where Pillow left off, going 2/3 passing for 59 yards and a TD pass to Woodley from 26 yards. Olivares is also responsible for extra-point kicks going 6 for 9 on those, for an extra 12 points.
Defensively, the Knights may have played their best game since Head Coach Trey Carter has been at the helm.
The Knights gave up 20 points, but it was hard-earned with some good catches, and one TD with one second to go in the first half, that looked too short to begin with.
Standouts on defense were to the likes of sophomore Kelton Galle who would finish the game with seven tackles, a sack, and an INT.
Senior Cash Eckermann also had a great game, racking up 11 tackles. He was all over the field in coverage as well as stopping the run.
Player of the game defensively, was junior Gage Wilson. He was asked to step up to play defensive end, and did he ever do that. Wilson made great tackles all night on bigger running backs, and then jumped into coverage on a receiver, and recorded his first Interception of the season as a great play to bait the QB of Covenant. He ended the contest with 11 tackles and that INT.
This is the Knights first dis trict win in over three years, after joining back into TAPPS.
The Knights will take on the Falcons of Founders Christian Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. for their homecoming game.
