WEIMAR — The Friends of the Weimar Public Library will host author James Brasher as a part of its Texas history series on Friday, Nov. 8, at 11 a.m. at the Weimar Public Library.
In his work, '11 Days on the Colorado: The Standoff Between the Texian and Mexican Armies and the Pivotal Battle Unfought," Brasher, a native of Weimar, examines the encampment of the Texian army on the Colorado River, with a particular focus on General Sam Houston's circum -
stances in that region.
Distinct from other literature on this topic, Brasher's publica tion emphasizes the maneuvers of the Texian army within our locality during March 1836, a crucial period that transpired between the fall of the Alamo and the Battle of San Jacinto.
From the Texian army's with drawal from Gonzales to Hous- ton's unexpected command to retreat to the Brazos, the mindset of the general is meticulously analyzed, and Brasher provides
rationalizations for Houston's choices. This enlightening ex - ploration of these specific events offers readers a novel perspective on that significant era.
Brasher possesses an ad- vanced degree in geology and has accumulated decades of ex- perience in the oil and gas sec - tor, alongside 16 years devoted
to groundwater conservation. He has authored several technical papers regarding subsurface ge - ology, as well as a magazine ar ticle that served as a precursor to this book.
His wife, Amanda Danning,
who is a nationally acclaimed sculptor and artist, contributed the illustrations for the publication.
Books will be available for purchase, and Brasher, along with his wife, will sign copies following the presentation.
