LA GRANGE — Leopards football recorded a win on homecoming night by taking down Caldwell High School Oct. 25 at Leopards Field in La Grange by a fi nal score of 52-35.
This game had a lot of offense, but La Grange had the upper hand with big plays down the stretch when it mattered most.
“Offensively, I thought we drove the ball well,” said La Grange head football coach Kyle Cooper. “I think every possession was a score except maybe that last one. I thought we did some good things on our short game. We didn’t hit any big hitters. Overall, I thought offensively we did a good job.”
Leopards sophomore Dwodney Thompson had two kickoff returns for touchdowns and also had an interception late in the game.
“Our team made some big time plays,” Thompson said. “It was a good team win.”
La Grange scored their first TD at the 8:39 mark in the first quarter on a count er hand off run by senior running back Le’Kayvion Broussard, then Caldwell responded with two touchdowns in a row on a 34-yard run and a nine-yard run to take a 14-7 lead at the end of the first quarter.
La Grange tied it up at 14 with 10:01 to go in the second quarter on a rushing touchdown for 11 yards by junior running back Da’von Giscome, which was followed by a 41-yard touchdown pass by Leopards senior Clayton Cooper to junior Mason Kleiber and back-to-back kick returns for touchdowns by Caldwell and La Grange for the Leopards to take a 28-21 lead at halftime.
Thompson scored his second kick off return on the first play of the third quar ter, which led to a strong drive from La Grange and a six-yard run up the middle from Cooper with two minutes to play to make it 42-21.
Caldwell followed it with another kick off return for a touchdown on the next play for a 42-28 scoreboard at the end of the third quarter in favor of La Grange.
A field goal early in the fourth quarter from Leop ards kicker Taylor Cook from 30 yards gave La Grange a 45-28 advantage before a four-yard touchdown from the Hornets made it 45-35 with 7:50 to go in the game.
More offense from La Grange was capped off by another six-yard touchdown run from Cooper at the 5:57 mark to ice the game at 5235.
