The EEA (Extension Education Association) of Austin County, a direct part of the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, hosted two educational opportunities in October to explore the beauty found in nature. Jessie Kokemor of the North Austin County Extension Education Club and Doris Glenewinkel of the Bleiblerville Extension Education Club conducted the programs.
Kokemor’s program centered on learning about edible plants found in nature. She shared many uses for these plants and discussed how nutritious they can be for the body. In addition, she covered the dos and don’ts related to harvesting and areas where harvesting should be avoided. Glenewinkel’s program provided many tips on exploring nature, including wearing appropriate gear and bringing necessary supplies. Her information emphasized the importance of setting aside time to explore nature to gain health benefits associated with it.
Most importantly, she addressed how screen time has affected our society's ability to spend time outdoors and appreciate the beauty of the environment. She also highlighted the best places to experience nature. Both programs were packed with a plethora of information.
