LA GRANGE — The La Grange High School girl’s basketball team earned a nice win against Weimar High School Nov. 15 in La Grange by a final score of 44-32.

La Grange controlled the game for it's entirety by running the floor on offense and setting up quality half court sets, leading to easy baskets as well as baskets in transition and on fast breaks.

“They did a great job starting the game off,” said La Grange head girl’s basketball coach Heath Golan.

“I could kind of tell that we weren’t ready when we hit the floor. That was the lesson we learned. They showed us that we have to be ready to play every night we step on the floor. Peo- ple are gonna come after us and we got to be ready to match that effort and intensity.”

La Grange junior guard Ky - lie Trlicek was a force offensively and netted 16 points for the outing.

Trlicek also just finished a season as a key player on the volleyball team as well.

"It's definitely been tough," Trlicek said on the transition from volleyball to basketball. “I had a playoff game Monday, then the next day I was playing a basketball game, so it’s been rough, but I’m already back in it and ready to kick off the season.”

Weimar has an impressive team and will most likely be one of the better teams in the area.

“Probably the main difference was just our lack of composure,” said Weimar head girl's basketball coach Jenny Fricke. “I’m starting a lot of freshmen and sophomores this year.

I thought just overall, they have some experience and great guard play.

They were just able to capitalize in transition and we weren’t. I thought there was a big stretch there in the third quarter where we got back into it a little bit, but then they went on that big run. Veteran teams will do that. I thought they just had more composure on both ends of the court than we did.”

La Grange started the game with a bang and had a 6-0 lead after a fast-break layup from Trlicek. Weimar battled back with five points in a row on a long two in the corner and an and one basket to make it 6-5 at the 2:47 mark. Another layup from La Grange, an and one basket from Campbell Cooper, and a pull up three pointer from Weimar resulted in an 11-8 scoreboard in favor of La Grange at the end of the first quar- ter.

As Cooper made a left-handed layup for La Grange with 2:40 to go in the second quarter, Weimar an- swered right back with a three-pointer from the wing to put the scoreboard at 18-16. A pull up jumper from Cooper in the final seconds gave the Lady Leopards a 20-16 lead at halftime.

Weimar made a couple free throws and a layup about midway through the third quar ter to make it 22-20 in favor of La Grange, then a three in the corner from Cooper gave La Grange a 25-20 lead with 4:40 to go. La Grange would finish the quarter strong with back-to-back buckets from Trlicek on a put back jumper and a floater in the paint at the 12 second mark to give the Lady Leopards a 29-22 lead at the end of the third quarter.

Another fast break layup from Trlicek in the beginning of the fourth quarter gave La Grange a 36-24 lead, then one more transition basket from Cooper and a made free throw from Weimar's Madison Luckey put it at 38-27. Weimar was able to score a few more baskets throughout the quarter, but two more fast break layups from Trlicek down the stretch sealed it for La Grange at 44-32.
