Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reported that the sher - iff's office and La Grange Police Department have received several reports of scams in which vic- tims have lost a significant sum of money.
The suspects have been calling, pretending to be personnel from the sheriff's office, stating that the victim has a warrant for their arrest, and demanding the victim send money to pay fines/ fees to clear the warrant.
The suspects involved are using software to make it appear as though they are calling from the actual phone number of the sher- iff's office.
Korenek stated that sheriff's office personnel will never con tact you by telephone or attempt to collect money or funds over the phone.
