Bellville volleyball grinds out state semis win vs Davenport

AUSTIN — The Bellville High School volleyball team punched their ticket to the state championship game Nov. 19 at the Burger Athletic Complex with a five set win over Davenport High School

by a final score of 25-20, 16-25, 24-26, 25-15, 17-15. A great bat - tle for the contest's entirety led to Bellville getting the last laugh

with big time points in each of the five sets. "This is a wonder - ful gym," said Bellville head volleyball coach Susan Brewer.

"Bellville's had a lot of success here. It was like old times when I walked in here today. Felt good about that. Feeling really good about this team. We've been pro - viding a little more focus in ev -

erything we've been doing. We had to have the faith to believe in

our team. We had this opportu- nity. We had to be competitive, we had to be unified, and we had to become successful. They achieved it tonight. We have one

more game and we're gonna have to do the same thing."

Brahmanettes senior outside hitter Sydney McKay had an enormous game with a lot of kills and clutch points when they were needed. "It was wonderful," McKay said. "I love the pressure. I'm so thankful to even have pressure on me. I think it's just a gift. It's wonderful. I can't wait until state." A back and forth first set led to Davenport having their biggest lead at 10-7 on a mishit from Bellville. After continuing to trade punches, Bellville gained a lead of 19-16 after a kill from McKay, then made it 22-16 on a ball out of bounds from Daven port. Three more kills in a row from Bellville would win them the set 25-20.

The Lady Wolves took a big lead in the second set at 7-3 af - ter a kill before Bellville fought back and tied the game at 12 on an ace from senior libero Emmy Novicke. Davenport grabbed their big lead back on a kill fol - lowed by an ace to put it at 1712, then started to pull away with another ace, a couple more kills, and some mistakes from Bell -

ville to win the set 25-16.

A close third set for it's entire -

ty led to an ace from Davenport and a ball out of bounds from

Bellville to take their biggest lead of the set at 20-16. Bellville answered with a few points in response on a couple kills from McKay and some errors from Davenport to tie it at 24, which led to a ball in the net from Bell -

ville and an ace from Davenport for the Lady Wolves to win the set 26-24.

Things were close again in the fourth set up until Bellville separated themselves with seven points in a row midway through the set to take an 18-11 lead on five kills, a block, and a ball in the net from Davenport. The

Brahmanettes kept their big lead at 21-12 on two kills in a row from McKay, then two more kills from McKay and an ace from Bellville won them the set 25-15.

The fifth set was a battle as

the biggest lead between the two

teams was at 10-7 in favor of Davenport after a kill from the

Lady Wolves. Both teams trad- ed points for the rest of the set and Bellville was able to gain the slight edge with a serve out of bounds from Davenport and a kill to win the set and match 1715.
