BRYAN — The Sealy High School football team won in convincing fashion Nov. 29 at Bryan ISD Merrill Green Stadium vs Gatesville High School by a final score of 56-21. Sealy controlled the game throughout it’s entirety with heavy production on offense and doing just enough on defense to win comfortably.
“We talked about it all last season long about what we were gonna do, what we wanted to do,” said Sealy head football coach Clint Finley. “Asked these kids to commit to the program and do the things it took to get it done and that’s exactly what they’ve done.”
Tigers junior quarterback Kane Killough had an enormous game with 297 yards passing and seven total touchdowns, along with 126 yards on the ground.
“We just got to come to practice with a different mentality,” Killough said on his mindset throughout the rest of the playoffs. “Make sure we’re working all week. Got to take advantage of every rep, every second we get.”
Sealy took a 14-0 lead in the first quarter with their last touch down of the quarter being on a run from Killough for 10 yards at the 7:13 mark, then stretched their lead to 21-0 in the beginning of the second quarter on another run from Killough, this time for 17 yards. Gatesville answered with an 84 yard touchdown pass shortly after, which was followed by a long touchdown pass from Sealy for 47 yards to Elijah Sanders at the 8:56 mark in the third quarter to make it 28-7. Another short touchdown run from Killough that was responded by Gatesville with a 15-yard touchdown pass with 32 seconds to go gave Sealy a 35-14 lead at halftime.
The Hornets scored about midway through the third quarter on a run for 10 yards, then Sealy scored two unanswered touchdowns on a 45-yard touchdown catch from senior wide receiver Noah Washington and a 30-yard touchdown catch from sophomore Romeo Castillo to make it 49-21 at the end of the third quarter. Sealy iced the game with a 40-yard touchdown run from Castillo with 2:17 to go in the fourth quarter to take the win at 56-21.
Sealy will play La Vega Friday, Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. at The Pfield in Pflugerville.
