ROUND TOP — Local restaurant Royers Round Top Cafe will be hosting a visit from America’s Best Restaurants (ABR) in early December 2024.
America’s Best Restaurants, a nation- al media and marketing company focus - ing on bringing attention to local, inde -
pendently-owned restaurants, will bring its ABR Roadshow to the restaurant on Dec. 11.
Popular dishes will be highlighted, along with an extensive on-camera in - terview with owners JB and Jamie-Len Royer about the restaurant’s special place in the community. The episode will be aired extensively on social media channels later.
Bud "The Pieman" Royer and his wife, Karen, opened the funky, jampacked-with-eclectic-decor eatery in 1987, and it continues to be a popular restaurant destination in the tiny town of Round Top. They have been featured in
Country Living, Southern Living, Texas Highways, CBS Sunday Morning, Country Home, USA Today, Travel & Leisure, Roadfood.com and the Houston Chron icle. Son JB and wife Jamie-Len now run the show and offer a wide array of hearty lunch and dinner favorites and the ability to ship menu items across the country.
Popular menu items that may be fea- tured on the episode include the grilled shrimp BLT on a grilled sourdough hoa - gie with smoky mesquite mustard, the steak with portobello mushrooms and a rosemary red wine cream sauce, shrimp and cheesy jalapeno grits, and the Nash - ville chicken sandwich. But a main draw is the homemade pie, of which the restaurant can crank out 1,500 a week. Skipping the ice cream with your pie costs extra, the menu jokes, and law enforcement, nurs - es, teachers and veterans get a free scoop with their slice order. The Texas Trash pie, featuring chocolate chips, coconut, pretzels, graham crackers, and more, was featured on The Today Show and certainly contributed to the cafe’s fame. Troy’s Junk Berry is another top seller, featuring six fruits and baked with a sour cream topping. America's Best Restaurants will be filming on location on Wednesday, Dec. 11, from 3 to 6 p.m. CST. The press is invited to attend. The restaurant's finished episode premiere date will be announced on its Facebook page and featured on America’s Best Restaurants website.
