CARMINE — Cubettes basketball fell to Brazos Christian High School Dec. 13 at Cubs Gym in Carmine.

Round Top-Carmine was able to keep things relatively close in the second half, but Brazos Christian gained enough of an advantage to where they were able to win by double digits with shot making and designed plays for a final score of 40-24. “We just got to settle into place,” said Round Top-Carmine head girl’s basketball coach Catie Weishuhn. "It's only our fifth game of the season, so once we get cooking on all cylinders and get in basketball mode and out of volleyball mode, I think we’ll be ok.”

A back and forth first quarter consisted of lots of layups, lots of free throws, and a jumper or two from each team to make for a 1411 advantage in favor of Brazos Christian after a made free throw from the Cubettes in the final seconds.

Christian hit a three and a layup to start the second quarter, which was responded by RT-C senior Tess Eilers on a bank shot from inside the wing put it at 1913 with 4:40 to go. A basket from Christian, a layup from RT-C, and two free throws from Christian led to a 23-15 scoreboard at halftime in favor of Christian.

Eilers hit another jumper, this time near the baseline, for the first points of the third quarter. This was followed by a couple baskets down low from the Lady Eagles and some free throws from RT-C en route to a 27-20 lead at the end of the quarter. RT-C cut it to four with a three at the beginning of the fourth quarter from the top of the key, which led to 11 straight points from Christian on a bunch of fast break layups.

The Cubettes only scored one more point for the rest of the game and Christian was able to close it out at 40-24.
